Cathy D’Apice Memorial Volleyball Tournament

The 16th annual Cathy D’Apice Memorial Volleyball Tournament will be held on Sunday, April 22nd, 2012 at Conard H.S. in West Hartford, CT. The tournament is played in memory of our teammates Cathy D’Apice and Val Dickinson who lost their battles with cancer.
Cathy D’Apice passed away 20 years ago at the age of 30 and Val Dickinson, her teammate passed away in 2008; she would have turned 51 this year. The tournament includes Cathy and Val’s “Fossils” teammates who play to honor their memory and raise awareness for the cause.

We have raised approx. $80,000 for breast cancer research over the past 15 years. We ask teams to contribute a minimum of $400 and individual players to raise at least $50 apiece. Donations are tax deductible and checks should be made out to CTBHI (Ct. Breast Health
Initiative).

The level of volleyball played each year is outstanding with a mix of collegiate Div. I, II, and III teams participating along with several
women’s adult teams. While the competition is excellent, even more important is the time set aside in the day to pay tribute to Cathy and
to honor her memory, celebrate her life, and to educate all in the fight against breast cancer.
Anyone wishing to volunteer their time to officiate or help out in any way next year, please let me know. Thank you for your support and we hope to see you next year. Last year’s tournament was a day to remember and we did something special in Cathy’s memory. It was one of those rare days when players call their own touches even in the heat of battle! Join us this year for a great day of volleyball and also come together in the battle against breast cancer. We hope to see you there!
