Howard Belkin

Howard Belkin

In 2004, Howard Belkin, a State of CT Workers’ Compensation Commissioner, former New Britain attorney, avid golfer, husband, father, grandfather and recognized extraordinary joke teller, began a golf tournament with a mission.  It was his dream to use his love of golf to raise monies for the statewide work of the CT Breast Health Initiative, Inc. by creating an annual tournament at his favorite golf club, The Shuttle Meadow Country Club.

In four years, the then-named “We Care Golf Tournament” raised $150,000 for breast cancer research and education in Connecticut.

Although Howard lost his own long, brave battle against lymphoma in November, 2007, his spirit and unwavering desire to find a cure for breast cancer lives on through this annual event.

The CT BHI, in appreciation and in memory of the founding Chairman, has renamed the fundraiser “The CT BHI Howard H. Belkin Memorial Golf Tournament.”  In its seven years, the tournament has raised a total of $255,000.

The tournament continues to be held annually in September at The Shuttle Meadow Country Club, Kensington, CT, under the sponsorship of numerous companies, businesses and individuals.
